Right after the crash

Just had an accident?

Take a breath. Then three things, in this order. The paperwork can wait until the car is on a truck.

  1. Make sure everyone is OK.

Check yourself and your passengers. If anyone is hurt, call 911 first. Get out of traffic if you can. The car can wait.

  2. Photos, then the police report.

Every side of every car, the plates, the scene. Ask the officer how you’ll get the report number. Your insurer will ask for it, and so will we.

  3. Call us. We arrange the tow.

    (201) 460-3900. Not drivable? Say so, and tell the tow driver it goes to A&V Automotive, 41 Romeo Street, Moonachie. Drivable? Send photos and we call you back during shop hours. You don’t have to use the insurer’s shop. Your rights are below.

  1. You choose the shop.

    N.J.A.C. 11:3-10.3(e)

  3. The settlement is yours.

    N.J.A.C. 11:3-10.3(l)

You are entitled to the settlement proceeds. The insurer cannot force payment to be joint or shop-only.

  4. Inspection has a clock.

    N.J.A.C. 11:3-10.3(a)

What we do

From the tow to the detail.

Collision is the core of the shop. The rest is everything a car needs on its way back to you.

  • A grey sedan clamped on the frame rack with its front bumper cover removed and a measuring gauge on the front rail, the dented fender waiting for repair

    Collision repair

Major and minor. Unibody and structural work through to the panel, on all makes. The frame goes back to spec, not to “close enough”.

Unibody · structural · all makes

  • A silver SUV in the paint booth, headlight, mirror and wheel arch masked with tan paper, fresh clear coat on the fender reflecting the booth lights

    Auto painting & refinishing

Computerized color match, blended into the adjacent panels and baked in our booth, so the new paint doesn’t announce itself.

Color match · blend · booth bake

  • A black pickup raised on the in-ground scissor lift, front wheel off, a new brake rotor and caliper on the hub, a torque wrench and box of pads on a rolling stool

    Mechanical repair

Brakes, oil, the check-engine light, and the things the crash shook loose. One shop, so the car only comes in once.

    Brakes · oil · check-engine

  • The hood of a dark blue SUV half polished, one side mirror-glossy with the ceiling lights reflected, the other still hazed with compound, a polisher resting on a towel

    Auto detailing

Interior and exterior, paint correction where it’s needed. Every repair goes out delivery-ready, and you can book a detail on its own.

Yellowed, hazy lenses made clear again. You see further at night and the car looks the age it is.

How a repair works

Seven line items.

One repair, in the order it happens, the way we say it in the shop. At every line you hear from us before anything changes.

  1. Check-in / tow-in

    Photos · Pre-scan

Walk-around with you, photos of everything, your claim number on file, and a pre-scan for fault codes on newer cars.

    From us

“Your car is in. Here’s what we saw on the walk-around.”

  2. Estimate & insurance

    Written estimate · Lic #01620A

A written estimate with our license number on it. The appraiser inspects the car here and we work to an agreed price. The estimate can change after teardown, and we tell you before anything changes.

    From us

“Here’s the estimate. If teardown turns up more, you’ll know first.”

  3. Teardown & blueprint

    R&I · Supplement + photos

Hidden damage shows up now, behind the bumper and under the fender. We document it and submit a supplement with photos.

    From us

“We found more behind the fender. Here are the photos, here’s the supplement.”

  4. Structural & body

RPR · RPL · Your authorization

The frame is measured to spec. Panels are repaired or replaced. Nothing is ordered without your authorization.

    From us

“Parts are approved. Do we have your OK to order?”

  5. Refinish

    REFN · BLND

Color matched to your car, blended into the adjacent panels, baked in our booth.

    From us

    “It’s in the booth.”

  6. Reassembly & quality check

    R&I · QC · Road test

Trim and lamps back on, alignment check, road test, then the detail.

    From us

“Road-tested and detailed. Come see it.”

  7. Delivery

    Written invoice

A walk-through with you, a written invoice, and we stand behind our work.

    From us

“She’s ready. Come take a look.”

Insurance

We’re an independent shop. The insurer doesn’t choose us. You do.

We work with all insurance companies. That’s the shop’s own line. Here is what it means once your car is on the lift.

  • We write the estimate.

Written, with our license number on it, after we have seen the car.

  • We meet the appraiser here.

On Romeo Street, with the car in front of us, and we work to an agreed price.

  • We submit supplements with photos.

When teardown finds hidden damage, the insurer gets the evidence and you hear about it before anything changes.

  • You can direct payment to us in writing.

    N.J.A.C. 11:3-10.3(l)

The settlement is yours. The insurer can’t force it to be joint or shop-only; sending it to the shop is your choice, on paper.

I-CAR Gold Class Collision Repair

Gold Class is I-CAR’s highest training recognition, held by roughly one in ten collision repair shops. It has to be re-earned every year, so the people working on your car are trained on how this year’s cars are actually built.

Questions

Asked at the counter.

Straight answers. If yours isn’t here, call and ask for Venecia: (201) 460-3900.

Do I have to use my insurer’s shop?

No. In New Jersey you may use any repair facility of your own choice, and the insurer must make all reasonable efforts to reach an agreed price with the shop you pick (N.J.A.C. 11:3-10.3(e)). Tell the adjuster the car is going to A&V Automotive and we take it from there.

How long will it take?

It depends on the damage, on parts, and on how quickly the insurer approves the estimate and any supplement. We give you a realistic window once the car is torn down, because that’s when we can see everything. If the window moves, you hear it from us first.

Will the paint match?

We match the color by computer, blend into the adjacent panels so there’s no hard edge, and bake the finish in our booth. The repaired panel shouldn’t be the one you can pick out.

Do you handle the paperwork and supplements?

Yes. We write the estimate, meet the appraiser at the shop, and submit supplements with photos when teardown finds hidden damage. You know about every change before it happens.

Can you arrange towing?

Yes. Call the shop at (201) 460-3900, tell us where the car is, and we arrange the tow to 41 Romeo Street.

Can I get an estimate from photos?

You can start one. Send photos through the form below and we call you with a preliminary read. It is preliminary: the written estimate, with our license number on it, follows an in-person inspection, and it can change after teardown.

Are you licensed?

Yes. A&V Automotive is operated by GMS Maintenance, Inc., a New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission licensed auto body repair facility, License #01620A. The shop is also I-CAR Gold Class and holds an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.

Do you do mechanical work too?

Yes. Brakes, oil changes, the check-engine light, and the things a crash shakes loose. If the collision repair turns up a mechanical problem, we handle it here rather than sending you somewhere else.

Start with photos.

Take them now, while the light is on the car. We look, call you back during shop hours, and tell you what we see. The written estimate follows an in-person inspection.
